Refresh Me with Apples

A devotional in poetry of conversations with God

One thinks of prayers as talking to God, but true conversation is allowing the time to listen to the thoughts of others, as well as making our thoughts known. So, our times of prayer should be both times of speaking and listening. In putting that to practice, I have written many poems over the years that include my thoughts and what I believe to be what the Lord has shared to my heart in poetry form.

My poems answer some interesting questions:9781947491151_cvr_Refresh Me with Apples

  • Can a train whistle speak to us?
  • Can God speak to us?
  • Did you ever hear water’s song?
  • What turned the tide when David battled Goliath?
  • Does God cry?
  • Are there rewards waiting for us in heaven?
  • Was there an intruder at the Last Supper?
  • Do ancient holy men of God still speak?
  • What is the message of the two thieves who were crucified with Jesus?
  • What will the day of the Lord be like?

Discover the answer to these questions in my book, “Refresh Me With Apples”, as you seek to draw closer to the Lord.

Refresh Me with Apples

“Refresh me with apples, for I am faint with love”
Is what I whispered one day to the One seated above
A smile crossed His face and He sent a reply
On the wings of an angel did the love letter fly

It spoke of His love, it spoke of His grace
The fruit He sent was sweet to my taste
“I will give you the desires of your heart
As you delight yourself in Me and from sin depart”

“Commit your path to Me and do not stray
For I am your life, the truth and the way
Small is the gate and narrow the road
That leads to life and the heavenly abode”

“Come sit under My shade, get relief from the sun
Partake of the banquet My victory has won
Through the valley of death the path may lead
But I will restore your soul and supply every need”

“Come to the waters that never shall run dry
These streams will flow to those who draw nigh
If anyone is thirsty, let him come drink of Me
And receive life abundant that lasts eternally”

By Debbie Furey

Song of Solomon 2:3-5 – “Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my beloved among the young men. I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste. Let him lead me to the banquet hall, and let his banner over me be love. Strengthen me with raisins; refresh me with apples, for I am faint with love.”

The Rapture

The Rapture of the Church is a time when Jesus Christ comes back for his bride after preparing a place for us like he promised in John 14:1-3.  This book examines what will take place when that event occurs.

Just as there was hidden prophecies about Christ’s first coming, should we be surprised there are hidden prophecies related to Jesus Christ’s second coming?  An example of this in the book of Ruth paints a picture of the return of the Jews coming back into their land shortly before the marriage of Jesus Christ and his church.
Another hidden prophecy is a picture of the ten virgins, five wise and five foolish, hidden in the Song of Solomon.  This story shows what will happen to those who are ready and those who are not.

9781947247604_cvr_The RaptureIn the story of Leah and Rachel in Genesis, we see a picture of the church and Israel in the “End Times”.

All of these hidden prophecies show the love Jesus has for his bride, the church, and his longing to return for her.  As you read these pages, I hope you feel the heartbeat of God as the nearness of the Rapture draws near.

This book examines the questions:

  • Will all Christians be taken in the Rapture?
  • How is Jesus’ return like the “days of Noah”?
  • How is Jesus’ return like the “days of Lot”?
  • How is the Rapture a picture of the ancient Jewish wedding customs?
  • What is the hidden prophetic meaning of the number two?

My hope in your reading this book is that on the day the cry is made, “behold the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him” (Matthew 25:6, KJV), you will joyfully light your lamp and go out to meet him.

The Beauty of the Bride

Sweet music plays as the bride does sleep
The strains do lull as the slumber grows deep
The Lord’s heart quickens as He tries to shake
For the day is approaching for her to awake

The beauty of the Bride is something to behold
It is the making of a legend to be forever told
Throughout the whole land there is no one more fair
From her dainty small feet to her long flowing hair

Her eyes are like pools of water that are deep
While full soft lips breathe music so sweet
The beloved’s skin glows, there is no flaw
Her form is shapely and her hands are small

She moves with a grace and gentleness so rare
Throughout the whole land there is none that compare
The bride’s robe is spotless so pure and white
While her quiet spirit exudes strength and might

The Lord’s heart quickens, again He will shake
She hears His voice and tries to awake
“I must get ready, He will be here soon”
So she lights her lamp by the glow of the moon

The bride knew He would come in the black of night
So she gathered her oil to make her lamp bright
The beloved one prepared thinking only of Him
While the foolish ones played and their eyes grew dim

The door was opened and the bride stepped in
She was ready and waiting for her new life to begin
The banquet was ready and the groom was there
As the saints were gathered together in the air

The door was then shut to those only hoping
Even though they begged for the door to be opened
Therefore, keep watch, for you don’t know the hour
That the Lord will come in His majesty and power

He is coming for a bride that is spotless and pure
For those who overcome the evil day and endure
Together, forever, we will be by His side
Get ready, get ready says the wise bride

Matthew 25:1-2 – “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.  Five of them were foolish and five were wise.”
