It is only by our dying that we can enter the new life
Sometimes death whimpers softly, but oft times with much strife
Dying to self is definitely hard–will it never end?
The many forms it takes is difficult to comprehend
Just like the caterpillar in its worm-like state
Travels on the ground not knowing of it’s fate
Until it gazes upward, and climbs up in a tree
Spinning it’s own shroud–sealing its destiny
The new life that emerges is nothing like the past
Soaring on wings of color to a new world that is vast
Never again to crawl the earth, it’s made to dwell on high
Don’t be afraid to die to self is the message of the butterfly
