Web of Deceit

A spider thought he had me in his sticky thread
The desperate situation filled me with much dread
How did I come to be here, how can I get free?
A trap had been laid for me that I did not foresee

I remember an enticement that had led me there
Before I could react, I was in a deadly snare
I remember I’d been warned not to go that way
This is what might happen when you disobey

The honey that I thought I saw on the web of deceit
Became the potent poison that I longed to eat
The bait that I had longed for was the trap that held me fast
This sticky situation has left me all aghast

Lord, my offenses are many in Your sight
My sins testify against me in Your holy light
Truth has stumbled in the streets and evil is now king
Surely, I deserve the judgments that my sins now bring

Lord, I repent and want to turn back to You
Rescue me from sin’s deceit, Your forgiveness I pursue
All who call upon Your Name You will surely hear
With Your grace and mercy, I ask You to draw near

Save me by Your righteous arm, sustain me with Your grace
In Your holy armor take me to Your hiding-place
All who will repent and turn You will surely save
You are mighty to redeem those who are destined for the grave

Isaiah 59:5 – “They hatch the eggs of vipers and spin a spider’s web. Whoever eats their eggs will die, and when one is broken, an adder is hatched.”

John 3:16–17 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
