A holy fast is what I have called you to
A time to deny the things that you like to do
Whether it’s eating or drinking or giving up things
I’ve called you apart to rest under My wings

Don’t use a holy fast so that you can acquire
Its purpose is designed to make Me your desire
Lift up your eyes from the earthly to the divine
Then you’ll see clearly My blueprints and design

The day you set your heart to pray and fast for My will
Angels are released with My answer to fulfill
You may have to wait because the battle is strong
In faith bring Me praise in joyful word and song

A holy fast is for those who desire Me and My ways
Its power will impact the world with changes that amaze
Keep the Sabbath holy and make Me your delight
I’ll fill you with My joy and cause you to ride on the heights

Daniel 10:2-6, 12-14 – “At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. 3 I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over.
4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, the Tigris, 5 I looked up and there before me was a man dressed in linen, with a belt of fine gold from Uphaz around his waist. 6 His body was like topaz, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude.”

“12 Then he continued, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them. 13 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. 14 Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”

Isaiah 58

Psalm 37:4 says to, “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” One way to look at this is that the Lord will give you the things that your heart already desires. Another way to look at that verse is that it is the Lord who puts those desires in your heart-He provides you those desires. There is a big difference there. If He’s the one to put the desire into your heart, it is because He wants to fulfill it. The strong desire God might put in your heart can cause us to go one of two ways. If we don’t get it in the timing that we want or the way we want, it can cause us to drift away from God and be disappointed in Him. If we look to find our delight in the Lord, He uses those desires to draw us closer to Him. It is in our looking to God to fulfill those desires that we pray and fast according to His will. That is called a holy fast.
Scriptures show that when we enter that kind of a fast, angels are released to accomplish God’s will. The opposition to that might be great, but the Lord will show us how to battle with spiritual weapons of warfare to win. One of these powerful weapons is fasting.
