This world is not my home, I am only passing through
The promised land awaits, beyond the heaven’s blue
Earthly things I’ll not hold tightly, nothing’s really mine
Worldly treasures fading, when I reach for the divine
What can we take with us, when we leave this earthly realm?
We’ll arrive in heavens glory to sights that overwhelm
The grandest things on earth would pale at this great sight
Our faith rewarded richly, to our great delight
Best of all, the welcome, of our Lord and King
When we appear before Him and our praises bring
We will fully know what has been hidden all along
The love He has for all, and to His family we belong

Matthew 6:19–21 – “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Romans 8
John 14:1-3
What do we really own in this world? When we die, we can take nothing with us, but if we knew the glorious things that await us in heaven, there would be nothing we would want to take there anyway. The world we are living in down here is only a shadow of the things that exist in the eternal realm. This world is fallen because of sin and everything in it is subject to decay. Why would we want to hold onto that? The promises God gave to us in His Word of our eternal home, so far surpass anything we can even imagine down here. So then, we must learn to hold on to things lightly and reach for God’s divine promises. One day our faith will turn into reality and this world we are passing through now will lead to the gate of eternal life.
