A Spring of Water

I heard the sound of water, bubbling from a spring
Cool and sweet refreshment I hoped it would bring
Someone told me it was near, in faith I went to look
It was love that led me to quench my thirst at yonder brook

Faith, hope and love–a threefold cord entwined together
Not so easily broke, by pressure, time or weather
One springs from the other to refresh the weary soul
Coming from the heart of God to heal and make me whole

I’ll sink my roots in the Word of truth and draw near to God
Bearing fruit and good works in His fertile sod
Faith and love that springs from hope will water precious seeds
Bringing forth a harvest to satisfy my needs

Colossians 1:5–6 – “….the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel 6 that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace.”

John 4:10-14 – “Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” 11 “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?” 13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

My Portion

You are my portion in the land of the living
More than enough because you keep on giving–
Giving us a share of your kingdom to reign
Giving precious promises that by faith we obtain

I have made You my refuge, in You I am secure
When the evil days come, I’ll be able to endure
I will not be shaken, in You I rejoice
To walk in faith, not in fear-I’ve made my choice

You are my portion, therefore I am glad
A precious inheritance is what you promise to add
This destiny is for all who have made You their lot
Eternal pleasures at Your right hand are what You allot

Psalm 142:5 – “I cry to you, LORD; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.”
Revelation 5:9–10 – “ And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”
Psalm 16, 142

No Need to Fear

Lord:
I am in your future waiting, with an outstretched arm
There’s no need to fear, I will keep you from much harm
I know the right direction but you need to follow Me
When you leave the path of life you leave your place of safety

Your enemy is also waiting with an outstretched arm
“Step off that straight path,” he says, with deceiving charm
Waving a carrot stick that looks a lot like our dreams
You can choose the wrong road to follow well-thought-out schemes

Me:
“The way that looks hardest is usually the best choice”
I heard deep inside from my dear Savior’s voice
Then I thought of the times He had led me in the past
Supplying every need from His treasury so vast

Yes Lord, I will surely put my faith and trust in You
Till the night’s deep darkness gives way to morning’s dew
Then throughout eternity my song will ring out sure
Give thanks to the Lord, forever His love endures

Matthew 7:13-14 – “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Psalm 37:18 – “The blameless spend their days under the LORD’s care, and their inheritance will endure forever.”

Psalm 37, 136

Biblical Worldview

Me:
What is the manna You would have me feast on today?
I want the Word of life, to have over me, full sway
There are some weak ways in me–I need Your strength
It must sustain me until day’s shadow grows full length

Lord:
Come today to the secret place and with Me abide
I have what you will need so your strength is revived
In My spacious banquet hall, a feast awaits you there
I’d be disappointed if you went to dine elsewhere

I am the Word you must devour every day
My body was broke for you when sin’s debt I came to pay
Eat till you are full so it becomes a part of you
You will then see differently, from a biblical worldview

Deuteronomy 8:3 – “He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.”

Wisdom and Understanding

The fear of the Lord will keep us from sin
In our walk with the Lord, it is the place to begin
Then wisdom will join us, and understanding to
Welcome them gratefully and ask them to guide you

No mortal comprehends the place where they dwell
They possess the power to deliver one from hell
They cannot be bought with the finest gold
The worth of them both is something to behold

From the Lord comes wisdom and understanding to
Ask and He will give them as a gift to you
They will lead the way to the fear of the Lord
To deliver you from evil and destruction’s horde

Psalm 111:10 – “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.”

James 1:5 – “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

Job 28:12-28
Job 18:5–21
Proverbs 2

The fear of the Lord is greatly missing from society these days. But even sadder than that is the fact that it is missing from most Christian’s lives. It is listed over fifty times in the Bible, so it must be very important to God. Not only will the fear of the Lord help to keep us from sinning, but it leads us to the path of wisdom.

Answers Coming Nigh

My prayers arise like incense to Your throne on high
There they are recorded and marked for Your reply
In Your infinite wisdom some are put on hold
Others are put in motion but take time to unfold

Many prayers are answered by angel armies sent
Spurred on by faith and love, to earth they quickly went
Angelic armies warring for the prayers of those
Who stood on Your promises and Your ways they chose

When Your saints return to heaven, their unanswered prayers not seen
Though they prayed in faith, You did not intervene
Petitions gathered through the ages wait for Your reply
Together we will one day see our answers coming nigh

Hebrews 11:6 – “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

Hebrews 11:39–40 – “These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, 40 since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.”

Hebrews 11

No Debate

Time will tell the truth of the promises God made
On that wonderous “Day” when each person shall be weighed
Will we be found wanting on the scale God will use?
Will His Word excuse us, or will it accuse?

On that great “Day” we will pass through the fire
Our works will be judged, our rewards we’ll acquire
Will the quality be proved, or will our loss be great?
God’s Word will be final, there will be no debate

Each will be rewarded according to our labor
Did our love extend to both foe and our neighbor?
The short time we have here will prove what we believe
There will be no debate for what each will receive

1 Corinthians 3:12-13 – “ If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.”

1 Corinthians 3:1–15

Lamb of God

Holy, holy, holy, the angel’s cries ring out
A waterfall of praise cascades heaven’s halls throughout
At the sound of their voices, the Temple’s doorposts shake
Smoke fills the atmosphere causing all to quake

Lord, You are worthy to receive glory and all power
Strength and honor cover You like petals on a flower
All the colors of the rainbow dance before Your throne
At Your feet lay many crowns, covered with gemstones

Who can tell of all the wonders that in heaven waits?
Only the redeemed have access to its pearly gates
Behold, the Lamb that was slain, to purchase men for God
Let us then serve our Redeemer forever on earth’s sod

Revelation 5:9–10 – Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”

Jesus the Author

In every good story written a struggle can be seen
The very best novels contain situations unforeseen
Long ago, God prepared, good works for us to do
Each life has a destiny that only God foreknew

Jesus is the author and perfector of our faith
He knows the path we’ll take toward our earthly fate
Jesus, the Lamb, slain before the foundation of the earth
So that all who would believe will receive a new rebirth

For the joy set before Him, He endured the dreadful cross
Taking our place there so we would not suffer loss
Let us run the race that Jesus has marked out for us
Till we complete our story with the end victorious

Hebrews 12:1–2 (NKJV) – “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God”

Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Hear Hearts Turning

Can you hear hearts turning in times of trouble?
All arrogant evil doers will be made stubble
That day is coming with purifying fire
Who can endure what is about to transpire?

The Lord you are seeking will suddenly appear
The one you desire and with much wisdom fear
He is coming to purify and cleanse His own
His Word to defend and His will to make known

The Son of Righteousness will rise with great glory
Driving back darkness to reclaim territory
Can you hear hearts turning back to the Lord again?
Restoring the hearts of fathers back to their children

Malachi 3:1–4 – “I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the LORD Almighty.
2 But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. 3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the LORD will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness, 4 and the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the LORD, as in days gone by, as in former years.”

Malachi 3 & 4
